Giten Tonkov
BBTRS® creator Giten Tonkov shares a mastery of body-oriented therapies that has evolved from decades of learning and working with thousands of clients. A Licensed Massage Therapist and certified Breath & Body Oriented Therapist, he developed the Biodynamic Breathwork and Trauma Release System® (BBTRS®) on a deeply personal journey of healing his own trauma after a childhood accident. His body held memories that his mind could not access, and it was through conscious movement, breathwork, and body-awareness that he began to release the suffering held within.
Professional Skills
Giten synthesized his extensive experience in bodywork modalities, conscious movement, and meditation into the Biodynamic Breathwork and Trauma Release System®; a unique blend of six elements: breath, movement, sound, touch, emotions and meditation. This method has helped thousands globally to reconnect with their bodies and release stored trauma. He is the author of Feel to Heal: Releasing Trauma Through Body Awareness and Breathwork Practice, which documents his approach, personal story, and the therapeutic principles behind BBTRS®.
Experience
With nearly 20 years of teaching, Giten continues to offer BBTRS® trainings internationally. Alongside senior facilitators Nisarga Dobosz and Prema McKeever, he also leads trauma-informed programs in Poland, including specialized trainings for Ukrainian refugees as part of the Ukrainian Training Resilience Project. Born in Ukraine, Giten has lived and practiced in New York City, India, Bali, and now divides his time between California’s Santa Cruz mountains and Lesvos, Greece. “It always made sense to look inside the body; to consider it as a garden in need of nourishment and tending,” he shares.
